So I know all are fridges brimming with whole fresh foods we painstakingly sourced from local farms, right?
In a perfect America maybe, but regardless of what is in your fridge lets keep fresh and far from death.
I read this infograph, I learned quite a bit. Hope you do to.

Quote of the day.
“First you get a swimming pool full of bone broth, then you dive in it.”
I know I have been touting bone broth alot lately but it seems to be internet choice for hot beverage of 2014. Hell, even dogs are getting a cup.
I have seen my own gut health improvement correlate with bone broth consumption…. and upped fat consumption in general.
Correlation is not causation but as long as it stays this delicious I just don’t care.
The Lakers Basketball team’s nutrition and strength couch bought a 400 lb grass fed cow last year.
This created a lot of fat fandom as more ballers saw health improvements on a high fat paleo style diet.
What is on the menu. Veggies and meat. Alot of kale chips and kombucha involved.
Sport writer, Danny Chau, adopted a one week paleo experiment. Coming straight from the standard American Diet He had this to say.
“It’s ridiculous to expect a world of change in seven days… I’ve already internalized some of diet’s broader lessons: I’ll continue to avoid processed sugars*, eat more vegetables, and stop using vegetable oils like canola and corn oil. Maybe I’m just not that attuned to how my body is supposed to feel, because I can’t exactly argue with results. I’ve lost four pounds since New Year’s Day.”
So many stewy chunks of endorsement for high fat and whole foods floating around the NBA these days. It is a relief. The diet I have adopted is not just about slimming down and looking glam. It is about performance.
Wheaties are for weanies. It is good broth makes Good ballers.
O.K. one more quote.
“I feel so much better that I’m never coming back.”
Well dam, apparently a bunch of lab mice may have leukemia as a result of a sucralose rich diet (sucralose being the chief ingredient in Splenda)
As a result the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has down grades Splenda from “Safe” to “Caution.” Sucralose may soon join the ranks of the artificial sweeteners saccharin, and aspartame. All having “avoid” ratings for their cancer creating tendencies in lab creatures.
“The forthcoming Italian study warrants careful scrutiny before we can be confident that the sweetener is safe for use in food,”
– CSPI executive director Michael F. Jacobson.
The CSPI recommends switching to water or seltzer water to curtail soda cravings. When I want a soda I brake the bank and drop $3-4 bucks on a Kombucha.
My attempts at making my own have not been tasty as of yet.
HEAVY CREAM BABY. I like to start the day decadent. and what is that, It can help with weight loss. My creamy coffee is legit, Splenda can split
“A good broth will resurrect the dead.”
– South American proverb
It seems like every other person in the city of Oakland is sick. One thing about a clean diet, I just don’t get sick. I have not been since I kicked gluten and white sugar 2 years ago, no colds, no flus, no sinus troubles.
Aww yeah, another flu free holiday season… wait what is this scratch in my throat. O gawd no.
It’s no pneumonia but I am definitely on the verge, the cusp, the precipice of a flu bug, time to boost the immune system with every grandma’s stand by.
This is an 8 hour recipe. But fear not, the prep was 5 minutes.
The (not so) secret.
I felt the tell tale throat tickle and jumped into action. No shopping trip necessary.
- One large white onion roughly chopped
- Three large carrots roughly chopped
- Five sticks celery roughly chopped
- 8 twists ground pepper
- Tablespoon garlic powder
- Teaspoon salt
- dash of rosemary and thyme
- One small bird (2.5 lb chicken for me, the whole thing bones and all, just shove her in there as respectfully possible. If the tail end is poking out no worries)
- H2O or stock (fill to about one inch below top rim)
Whole chicken? Really?
O hell yeah. Collagen baby, gelatin and collagen.
This ain’t no Campbells. You just made bone broth a time tested wellness bomb.
All the nutrition from those bones, joints and skin, I felt it from the first bite. I felt pouring though my whole tired ailing body. If my system was a stadium, my immune cells were out of their seats hysterically cheering this soup on… wearing foam chicken hats and wavin’ broth banners.
Soup Bowl Full Sunday Champions.
Three work filled days, three 10 hour sleep nights, and my throat never even got a chance to push past mild puffiness. My only medicine, three jars of this
Cinnamon helps lower blood pressure. Let us declare it spice of 2014.
Cinnamon helps the blood process sugars, diminishing insulin spikes in response to food.
Does it lower fasting blood glucose?
“About 3 to 5 percent.” This Dr. Davis says in the article
Ill take it.
I have touted this fact before. This article is a refreshing deeper look. All cinnamon is great but some is greater, or so it seems.
Cassia cinnamon, the common American variety, packs much coumarin. Coumarine cause reversible liver toxicity in a small group of individuals sensitive to it. You would have to be consuming more than one teaspoon per day. If you are eating that much, reach for ceylon cinnamon instead,
