Capsaicin binds to the protein TRPV1 that resides on the membranes of pain and heat sensing neurons. Apparently the altered proteins work to break down fats.
Chilli has been a traditional alleviator of diabetes in Jamaica for a number of year, due to it blood sugar regulating effects, while Maya had been adding chilli to just about everything. Their appears to be little down side to going a little liberal on the habanero hot sauce or better still just dust everything with a little cayenne.
