Food Deserts: Correlation is not Causation But…

Doing a project on the West Oakland food desert and thought this was a an interesting correlation

2013 Obesity Rates…

2013 Food Desert Locations…

FOOD DESERT or LOW-ACCESS COMMUNITY = at least 500 people and/or at least 33 percent of a population resides more than one mile from a supermarket or large grocery store

Lack of grocery stores is not the only factor, the surplus of fast food and corner stores is as much if not more to blame.

FOOD SWAMP = A geographic area where the superabundance of high-energy foods (for example, caloric snacks sold at convenience stores) inundate healthy food options

I propose we endorse this solution:
